Maleek Cofield, 20, Remembered Following Fatal October 27 Incident in Rockford, Illinois
Maleek Cofield, 20, died after arriving at a local hospital with multiple injuries following an incident near Yonge and Evergreen streets in Rockford, Illinois.
Officers responded at approximately 11:15 p.m. on October 27, 2026, after receiving reports of shots fired.
Authorities also found damage to nearby vehicles and a home.
Police announced on October 29, 2026, that five Rockford residents had been charged in connection with Cofield’s death.
Those charged include a 17-year-old teenager, Damarion Evans-Mackey, 22, Aryanna Ozbirn, 21, Willie McGee Jr., 20, and Armonti Bryant, 20.
Officials stated that detectives from several specialized units assisted with the investigation and that all five individuals remained in custody.
Cofield’s death at only 20 years old brings profound sorrow to those who knew and cared about them.
